Born in Mexico City in 1970, Wiseman has lived in Mexico, NY, Scotland and Brazil. He has a BA from NYU in Ethnographic Film (1992) and completed the Documentary Program at the International Center of Photography in NY (1996).
After living in NY for 13 years working as a freelance photographer and as fine printer for the Magnum photo agency, Wiseman returned to Mexico City in 2001.
Selected for the XVI Bienal de la Fotografía in 2014 he is also the recipient of Mexico’s prestigious Endowment Of the Arts SNCA/FONCA fellowship (2012-2015). A Photolucida Critical Mass top 50 (2012), recipient of the Best of Show Award in the 2012 from the Photo Review Competition, selected as a PhotoEspaña Visionary and a Prix Pictet nominee in 2013. His work has been featured in LENSCRATCH, Fototazo, Developtube, Porcupine, LATAM and F-Stop Magazines.
Wiseman´s personal work challenges the traditional format of documentary photography primarily the idea of objectivity. His recent projects “Moving Portraits” and “Tlatelolco Disproved” are examples of how the process can be integrated into the final presentation of a project to create an honest representation through subjectivity.
He continues to work as a freelance editorial photographer with recent commisions from magazines such as Wallpaper, Rolling Stone, Metropolis, Frieze, Domus, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Los Angeles Times Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Mens Journal, El Mundo, Le Monde, Monocle, The Telegraph Magazine, ESPN Magazine, The Guardian, Colors Magazine, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic, and Paris Match among others. His work has also been published in the books; ¨Harvard Design School Guide to Shopping¨ Rem Koolhaas/Tashen, ¨New York September 11 by Magnum Photographers¨ Powerhouse books, ¨Mutations¨ Actar, and "The Endless City" Phaidon/London School of Economics.
His personal work has been published in: “El Super” and “Sonora Magic Market” both by Editorial RM, and “Area Conurbada” by Edition One Books
Wiseman´s work has been exhibited in the US, Switzerland, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Argentina, Venezuela, and at the 2006 Venice Architecture Biennal. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., in the 9/11 Memorial in NY, the Coppel Collection, The World Bank, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, as well as a number of private collections.
Wiseman currently works as an independent fine art and documentary photographer in Mexico City and is represented by the Patricia Conde Gallery.
